George Kimak, servant to his country

George Kimak, 84, of Milford, and formerly of Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.

He was born Feb. 22, 1929, to the late John and Helen Kimak in Vintondale, Pa. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, John Kimak of Las Vegas, Nev. He was a career servant to his country, having spent a 20-year career in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, and after leaving the service, he joined the U.S. Civil Service, working in the Department of Defense.

He raised two children with his wife, Rose Marie, who preceded him in 2000. He was amusingly known as a “sweepstakes sleuth” because of his amazing luck or skill in entering sweepstakes. He won a car, a truck, five TVs, numerous trips and other prizes - and was always generous in giving the prizes and awards away. He loved to play the lottery, and won that several times too! He loved to travel, and was a major animal lover.

He is survived by his daughters: Linda Gummel and husband John of Millsboro, and Phyllis Hollenbeck and husband Robert also of Millsboro. He also is survived by siblings: Mary Shea of Ohio, Nick Kimak of Las Vegas, Pauline Jones of Vintondale and Ann Sturms, of Dillsburg, Pa.; along with two grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved canine friends, Fiddy and Jenny, whom he always treated to MacDonald’s when out with them.

A viewing and visitation with vigil service will be held from 6 till 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St. Millsboro. The vigil service will begin at 7  p.m. Interment follows at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Indiantown Gap Federal Veteran’s Cemetery in Annville, Pa. with the conferring of military honors.
