Donald P. Smith, defense dept. retiree

Donald Patrick Smith, 70, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Glen Burnie, Md.,  passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.  He was born Jan. 29, 1943, in Scranton, Pa., son of the late Ambrose and Mary McGuire  Smith.

Mr. Smith retired in 1998 after 38 years with the U.S. Department of Defense.  Following his retirement to Lewes he worked for six years for Beebe Medical Center as a valet. He enjoyed traveling the world over, taking many cruises with his wife, playing many rounds of golf and exploring with his computer.  He was also an avid sports enthusiast with his favorite teams being the Baltimore Ravens and the Orioles.

Surviving are his wife Maryellen Willis Smith; son Mark Smith of Brooklyn Park, Md.;  daughter Robin Falk of Millersville, Md.; brother Kevin Smith of Archbald, Pa.; sister Diane Gross of Virginia; and three grandchildren, Christopher and Caitlyn Smith and Adam Falk.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway Lewes, with Pastor Mike Hurley officiating, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. The family will also receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the services at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
