Cape volleyball hosted Brandywine High School Aug. 23 then filled the Vikings' gymnasium with 10 teams for the annual play day scrimmage, which included Indian River, Delmarva Christian, Milford, Sussex Central, Christiana, Woodbridge, Hodgson, Lake Forest and Appoquinmink.
The Vikings are looking to improve on their 10-5 record from the 2012 season.
"We are in the process of learning," said head coach Carrie Evick. "Even our starters from last season are in different positions this year. I'm very pleased how well we are meshing this early on."
Returning seniors Kristin Perkinson, Mallory McDonald, Megan Hart, Megan Grahne and Claudia Ratner are expected to lead the team with their experience.
"We are excited to see our seniors take the leadership role and help our young sophomores grow and develop," says Evick. "We are scrappy for sure."
Cape opens on the road at Delmarva Christian Friday, Sept. 6. Junior varsity play begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30.
