Heidi Lowe Gallery will host a five-week ring-making workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays in October for beginners and intermediate students who want to learn and/or improve their metalsmithing and design skills. At the end of the month, students will have made three sterling silver rings.
“This class will be a great way to make a few rings in your unique style, while learning how to design and create silver jewelry,” gallery owner Lowe said. “This workshop will provide a great way to make the jewelry you wish you could find in the store. Students will complete three rings, a simple band, a decorative band with a stone on top and an overlay ring.”
Students will learn all the basic metalsmithing skills including piercing, soldering, forming and finishing. The schedule is as follows: Oct. 2, an introduction on safety, saw marks, stamping, filing, and stone selection; Oct. 9, bezeling, connecting to the band, and finishing, and an introduction to overlay rings; Oct. 16, layout, drilling, sawing, filing and soldering; Oct. 23, soldering; Oct. 30, finishing, patination and polishing.
“Heidi is truly a gem!” Lewes resident Rosalind Mailander said. “I have taken several classes from Heidi. She teaches the art and skill of jewelry making in such a way that it is always fun, educational, and rewarding. Heidi is a knowledgeable and inspirational teacher who possesses unlimited patience.”
The entire five-week workshop costs $340 per person and includes tools and materials, silver and stones. The class size will be limited to six people. For questions about scheduling or to reserve a class, contact the gallery at 302-227-9203.
