Beebe Medical Center Receives Accreditation and Renewal for Advanced Imaging Technologies

August 27, 2013

Beebe Medical Center’s Diagnostic Imaging Department is proud to announce that its most sophisticated MRI unit, the 3T, digital, 16 Channel, Philips Ingenia, located at the Rehoboth campus on John J. Williams Highway,  has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety.  It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.  Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.  The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

In addition, the 1.5T Intera MRI scanner at the Rehoboth campus was also awarded re-accreditation for an additional three-year period.

Beebe Medical Center’s Diagnostic Imaging Department is a vast network of technologies in the hospital and at outpatient facilities in the Rehoboth, Georgetown, Millsboro, and Millville. The department employs 105 specially trained technologists and technicians who operate the technology and support physicians and surgeons. Board-certified radiologists that are members of the Beebe Medical Staff read and interpret all images.

Imaging services are being expanded in Georgetown and added in Milton.
