Beebe Medical Center Congratulates 2012 RN Residents on Completion of their First Year as Nurses
Beebe Medical Center’s RN Residency Program facilitated a smooth transition to a professional setting for the seven nurses who have recently completed their first full year as nurses.
“The RN Residency program gave us the opportunity to meet with other graduates that we could relate to,” says Elizabeth Theil, RN, Resident in the Women’s Health Pavilion. “Sharing our struggles and triumphs was helpful in improving ourselves and preparing for our future careers as nurses.”
The transition of student nursing graduates to experienced, professional nurses requires gaining clinical experience and adapting to a work setting.
“Learning to function in a work environment was easier than I thought it would be,” says Theil. “We observed our individual units consistently throughout the program, which allowed us to already be familiar with the necessary skills and policies.”
Natalie Smolko, RN, Resident in the Intensive Care Unit, said the support that experienced nurses gave her confidence and helped her find her way.
“Knowing that I was a new graduate from the residency program, everybody in the Intensive Care Unit made an effort to take me under their wing,” she said. “They always reached out and asked me if I ever needed help with anything.”
Jennifer L. Hargreaves BA, RN, Clinical Education Specialist, said the program has proven to be a successful one in transitioning the new nurses into their professional roles.
“We congratulate the 2012 RN residents for successfully finishing their first full year as nurses at Beebe Medical Center. We are honored to have them here.”
