The Cape Henlopen soccer team traveled to Polytech Aug. 30 to scrimmage Polytech, Caesar Rodney and Middletown to get the team set for the opening game with Tower Hill Saturday, Sept. 7, at Dover High School in the DAAD Tournament. Play starts at 2:30 p.m.

Tower Hill was 5-9-1 last year but the record is deceiving, based on the Hillers' strength of schedule. Coach Gary Montalto, now entering his third year at Cape, didn't win close to 600 games in New York by taking anyone lightly.

Cape will head into the season with recently named tri-captains Griffin Kammerer, Max Euler and Conor Donahoe providing team leadership.

The play day results which don't amount to a hill of beans according to Montalto were Cape 1-0 over Caesar Rodney and 1-0 over Polytech and Middletown over Cape 2-0.

"We played our reserves the last 15 minutes against Middletown, while CR had a mixed and matched lineup on the field against us," Montalto said. "But overall, the scrimmages have been very useful. I have a much better grasp of a rank order of players."
