Calling all history buffs! Dogfish Head Founder and President Sam Calagione and biomolecular archaeologist Dr. Pat McGovern are ready to offer a night of all things Ancient Ales - with a special Ancient Ales talk and tour Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Milton brewery.
McGovern directs the Biomolecular Archaeology Project at the University of Pennsylvania Museum in Philadelphia, where he is also an adjunct professor of anthropology and consulting scholar in the Near East Section. Over the past two decades, he has pioneered the interdisciplinary field of Biomolecular Archaeology, which is yielding whole new chapters concerning human ancestry, medical practice and ancient cuisines and beverages.
Popularly, McGovern is known as the “Indiana Jones of Ancient Ales, Wines, and Extreme Beverages.” He is the author of "Ancient Wine: The Search for the Origins of Viniculture" (2003), and most recently, "Uncorking the Past: The Quest for Wine, Beer, and Other Alcoholic Beverages" (2009).
To kick off the evening, McGovern will talk (and walk) everyone through the Ancient Ales series in the new brewhouse. He will then tag in Calagione for a guided tour of the off-centered brewery. Once done with the tour, finish up in the Tasting Room with some aged Ancient Ales. Along with those samples, receive an Ancient Ales poster, coaster and bottle opener.
Ticket purchasers can also enter into a drawing for two tickets to the Ancient Ales dinner at the Rehoboth brewpub Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Tickets for the Ancient Ales Tour are $10 per person.
To get a ticket, contact 302-684-1000 or go to www.dogfish.com.
Those who want to swing by before the Ancient Ales tour starts at 6 p.m., will be able to catch their Vintage & Vinyl Happy Hour and/or enjoy a bite to eat from Bunyan's Lunchbox!
