Groome UMC to hold Back to Church Celebration Sept. 14 and 15

Groome United Methodist Church of Lewes is getting ready for its Back to Church Celebration weekend Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15.

Back to Church Sunday is part of a national movement of churches across America that seeks to reach people who once attended church but don’t any more as well as those who have never attended. About 20,000 churches are expected to participate this year, inviting more than 2 million visitors.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, In the church parking lot there will be a free yard sale of clothing, glassware, kitchen and household items, books and much more. A free lunch of barbecued chicken or hot dogs, along with chips and drink is available. Last Call Motorcycle Ministry will be performing music in the parking lot.

There will also be a prayer wall and someone available to help with prayer. Youth and children can enjoy games with prizes, face painting and Sunday school crafts. Information on Groome’s ministries and small groups will be on site. Hazel Brittingham, Lewes historian and Groome member, will conduct guided tours of the church.

The Delmarva Ramblers will provide music at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday, Sept. 15. Special skits are also planned, and social time with refreshments in the fellowship hall after each service.

The Rev. William Hopkins, Groome pastor, invites everyone to come. Groome United Methodist Church is at the corner of Savannah Road and Dewey Avenue in Lewes.
