The ball was dropped dead center on a hot Sept. 10 afternoon to start the 2013 field hockey season. The Vikings played it forward, and that's where it stayed for 60 minutes of hockey domination as Cape outshot Laurel 39-0 on the way to a 4-0 victory.
"Most teams are going to pack it in on us," said assistant coach Debbie Windett. "We counter by pressuring them and not allowing them to get the ball out of their own end. We will win games by possessing the ball."
Cape scored the first goal of the season at 16:19 as Sam Broadhurst calmly tapped home a pass from Marlee McGinnis.
The score at halftime was 1-0.
Cam Bernheimer scored on a penalty stroke at 26:17 in the second half. That was followed by a Tess Bernheimer goal at 11:57. The final goal for Cape came with 1:40 left to play by Sydney Ostroski on an assist from Erin Coverdale.
