Tara Sexton Blitz, beloved teacher

September 11, 2013

Tara Sexton Blitz, 45, of Ocean View, a most loving and colorful young woman, departed this life to make a new home with the Lord and her loved ones Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Tara attended Lord Baltimore Elementary School, graduated from Indian River High School and received her teaching degree from Salisbury State University in 1994. She taught middle school and kindergarten for nearly 18 years with the Indian River School District. Her students loved her. She was kind, loving and animated.

Tara was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. The door to her home was always open to her wealth of close friends and her children’s friends as she was enthusiastically involved in their lives. She was a selfless and generous woman, always putting the needs and feelings of others before her own. She was affectionate and an absolute joy to be near. She will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Richard M. Blitz Jr.; her daughter, Caitlin L. Blitz (Josh); a son, Connor M. Blitz; and her pride and joy, granddaughter McKenna O’Beir. She is also survived by her parents, Phillip and Vivienne Sexton; grandmothers, Frances M. Shadel and Henrietta Sexton; a sister, Tia Sexton (John); her in-laws, Sue and Richard Blitz; and brother-in-law, Michael Blitz. Other family members include aunts, uncles, cousins, especially cousins Stacie, Leah, Diana and Melissa White (honorary cousin) who helped her navigate through such troubled waters these last seven months. She waged quite the battle, wanting only to return to her classroom and her beloved students. She loved them one, she loved them all. Her job defined her.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Sept. 14, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Millville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers , the family suggests memorial donations in Tara’s memory to UMD St. Joseph’s Breast Cancer Institute, 7501 Osler Drive, Building A, Suite 205, Towson, MD 21204, or The Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE. 19963.
