James J. Cloney, former Lewes resident

James J. Cloney, 83 of Towaco, N.J., formerly of Lewes and Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of the late Constance Journey Cloney; and is survived by daughters, Sharon Cloney and Kimberly (Glenn) Bott; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Nancy Cunningham and Beatrice Thomas.

He was the son of late James Cloney and Anna Marie (Kelly) Cloney of Havertown, Pa.

Mr. Cloney was a graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School and Temple University as well as a member of the varsity football teams at both schools. He was elected team co-captain in his senior year at Temple where he majored in sales and marketing. He was fondly known as Jungle Jim for his exploits on the field.

Mr. Cloney was always an active member of his community, most notably the Elks, St. Jude Parish in Lewes, and other organizations.

A memorial Mass is set for Thursday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shelbourne and Manoa roads in Havertown. Friends and family may call between 9:30 and 10:20 a.m. prior to Mass. Internment will immediately follow at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery Marple, Pa.

Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church ,152 Tulip Dr. Lewes, DE 19958.
