Gwen F. Mitchell, Stockley retiree

Gwen F. Mitchell, 72, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Beebe Medical Center, with loving family present. Gwen had fought a courageous battle with heart disease for the past two years.
Born May 13, 1941, in Wilmington, to the late Irving and Florine Chappelle, she graduated from Conrad High School in Wilmington and attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.  She worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone Company, later retiring from Stockley Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Greg A. Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Gunsalus Sweeney and her husband Michael: grandchildren Michael, Caitlin, Kelly, Colin and Conor; great-granddaughter Scarlet, all of Shawnee, Ks. She is also survived by her uncles and their wives, Thomas and Wave Starnes of Rehoboth Beach, and Luther and Joyce Starnes of Columbia, Md. and her aunt, Jane Meyers of Seaford as well as many cousins and friends.
A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m., at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. Friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Millsboro.
