Bayhealth joins Million Hearts Delaware

September 25, 2013

Bayhealth has partnered with Million Hearts Delaware to help reduce the number of Delawareans who die from heart disease and stroke each year. One of the prime goals of Million Hearts is to connect at-risk individuals with healthcare providers who can help them implement positive changes to improve cardiovascular health.

Bayhealth will collaborate with community organizations to offer blood pressure screenings and take waist circumference measurements - two methods of assessing a person’s risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Individuals with results outside the normal range will be encouraged to share their data with their healthcare providers. Bayhealth staff can assist participants in locating an appropriate provider if necessary.

Million Hearts began in September 2011 with a goal to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. In Delaware, the partnership includes hospital systems, the Delaware Division of Public Health, Medical Society of Delaware, the American Heart Association, and numerous other groups. For more information, visit millionheartsde.com.
