Locals rock and roll To Philly Half Marathon

Cannonball Run attracts record field
September 20, 2013

The Rock & Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon last weekend attracted 18,000 runners, with the winner of the men's race, Stanley Biwott of Kenya, averaging an amazing pace of 4:33 a mile, running 59:35.

Two men broke the 60-minute barrier, while two women broke the 1:10:00 mark. Back in the '80s and '90s when a huge event took place in the area, only a handful of locals would participate. This year, 29 runners traveled to take part in the race. Here is a look at the local finishers and their times. Congratulations.

In 78th place, Enos Benbow of Georgetown in 1:13:36 averaging a 5:37 pace led the way locally. Lou Sparco of Millsboro ran 1:42:15; Jennifer Rigby of Lewes ran 1:52:20; William McArthur of Lewes ran 1:56:50; Anthony Romano of Harbeson ran 1:59:25; Lisa Romano of Harbeson ran 1:59:40; Holly Monaco of Rehoboth Beach ran 2:01:58; Courtney Ritter of Selbyville ran 2:04:29; Michael Volstorf of Lewes ran 2:05:47; Katie Beach of Frankford ran 206:27; Tina Dombroski of Georgetown ran 2:10:36; Jenna Douglass of Rehoboth Beach ran 2:10:35; Stephanie Moody of Milton ran 2:13:09; Jessica Archambault of Rehoboth Beach ran 2:17:32; Molly Benner of Bethany Beach ran 2:22:38; Janis Lopez of Lewes ran 2:26:02; Robert Bartley of Lewes ran 2:33:14; Leo Darmstadter of Georgetown ran 2:33:59; Jaime Lester of Millsboro ran 2:38:14; Raul & Beth Tapia of Georgetown ran 2:48:21; Leanne Angleton of Georgetown ran 2:50:01; Annamarie Brown of Ocean View ran 2:51:10; Brooke Darmstadter of Georgetown ran 2:51:35; Siu Kei Li of Millsboro ran 2:58:27; Alyssa Hamm of Millsboro ran 2:58:28; Carla Dolan of Ellendale ran 3:41:58; and Erika Hann of Milton ran 3:41:59.

Cannonball 5K Run & Walk

Last Sunday morning, Lewes celebrated the 10th running of the Cannonball 5K Run & Walk, which kicked off a busy day of dragon boat races in the First Town in the First State. A field of 193 turned out for the event, which was easily a 10-year event record for the Lewes Historical Society event. Five-year age groups, custom cannonball awards, tech T-shirts, chip timing, and the addition of the popular post-race refreshments with Nectar Café all boosted the numbers for the 10-year celebration.

Steven Eshleman of Milford led from the start, crossing the tape in 17:35, while Alyssa Pietrobono of Philadelphia ran 20:52 to win the female title.

Chris Stanley won the male masters running 19:12, while Helen Morrow won the female masters in 21:14. Age-group results can be found by visiting www.seashorestriders.com.

The second-place team scored 75 points, while the champions scored 72 for a close team competition.

In the varsity 2.2-mile race, eighth-grader Logan Shuttleworth was fourth overall in the race followed by teammates Lindsey Guida and Sky Dunmyer.
