Cape cross country chases down pair of victories

Vikings boys and girls beat Lake Forest and St. Thomas More

The September screaming bright sun sinking into the west produced a “somebody turn out that light” backdrop to Wednesday’s cross-country race as Cape’s boys' and girls' teams along with St. Thomas More raced Lake Forest at Killens Pond State Park.

Cape ran away with both races, beating Lake Forest and St. Thomas More by identical 15-50 scores, which is the cross country version of a shutout. Lake Forest defeated St. Thomas More 24-34 in the other tabulation.

Cape placed first through seventh in the boys' race, with Austin MacElrevey at 17:45 followed by Ryan Thornburg 17:54, Solomon Cox 18:22, Sidney Miller 19:12, Seth DePrince 19:17, Dylan Brown 19:43 and Eriq Gloria 19:50.

The Cape girls defeated Lake Forest 17-42 while blanking St. Thomas More 15-50.

Madison MacElrevey won the girls' race in 22:02 followed by Keren Rams 22:16, Grace Brokaw 23:16 and Sarah Rambo 23:23.

Jessalynn Kenton 23:44 and Taylor Rosser 23:52 of Lake Forest broke up the Cape pack followed by Alyssa Mocci 23:52.
