Lewes should be proud of Dragon Boat Festival

September 20, 2013

We would like to express our appreciation to Stewart and Krista Griffin for introducing Dragon Boat Racing to Lewes.  We’re sure a tremendous amount of hard work and effort was invested in this venture by the entire organizing party.

This was a family-oriented event that appealed to all ages, as was evidenced by the number of small children utilizing the canalfront playground.  The weather was perfect and the crowd was orderly and well behaved.  The races went off like clockwork and were enjoyed by a large number of spectators.  There was a real sense of excitement and camaraderie in the air on Sunday.

It appeared that the local vendors had a successful day, and hopefully other local businesses benefited by the hundreds of people who were attracted to Lewes for the races.

All in all, Lewes should be proud to have approved this venture.  We’ve heard nothing but positive feedback. We suspect that there will be no problem finding teams to race all 36 boats next year.

The NaturaLawn Dragon Ladies and their sponsor and supporters were proud to be a part of the first Lewes Dragon Boat Races.
