Oct. 31 deadline for submissions
October 1, 2013

U.S. Rep. John Carney is now accepting applications from Delawareans who are seeking a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, or the Military Academy at West Point. The application deadline for Carney’s office for those wishing to enroll in the class of 2018 is Thursday, Oct. 31.

“It’s a tremendous privilege to nominate some of Delaware’s brightest and most talented young people to attend our nation’s service academies,” said Carney. “The academies offer an opportunity to earn a degree from some of the most prestigious colleges in the nation, while receiving the training and skills necessary to succeed throughout life.”

In order to be considered for an appointment to one of the academies, an applicant must meet all eligibility requirements and receive a nomination from a member of the House or Senate, the vice president, or the secretary of the Air Force, Army, or Navy. Applicants to the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy and West Point must be between the ages of 17 and 23 as of July 1, 2014.  The applicant must also be a U.S. citizen, unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. Applicants may be considered for nomination by Carney and both of Delaware's U.S. senators.

Those seeking an application packet or more information about the nomination process should go to or contact Kristy Huxhold in Carney’s office at 302-691-7333 or
