Tidewater Utilities voted Best Tasting Water in Delaware

October 4, 2013

Tidewater Utilities Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Middlesex Water Company, has been named the provider of the Best Tasting Water in Delaware for the second year in a row by the Delaware Rural Water Association.

The DRWA is the state’s leading association dedicated to providing technical assistance and specialized training for rural water and wastewater systems. Tidewater, a water utility currently serving more than 43,000 retail and contract homes and businesses, operates more than 158 wells and 83 water plants throughout Delaware.

In late September, Tidewater went up against other Delaware water utilities which submitted samples of their water for the annual competition to determine the state’s best-tasting water. Tidewater’s winning water selection sample for the competition was drawn from The Meadows system in Oak Orchard in the Columbia unconfined aquifer.

A select panel of judges evaluated the water samples based on appearance, odor, flavor, mouthfeel, aftertaste and overall impression before announcing Tidewater as having the most appealing and best-tasting water. The winning entry will now go on to the national competition in Washington, D.C. in February.

“Our staff work very hard every day to produce safe water for the wide range of our customers' household, commercial, and fire protection uses,” said Tidewater President Gerard L. Esposito. “It is very gratifying to get objective validation from Delaware’s panel of independent judges that our customers are also enjoying such great-tasting drinking water.”

Tidewater, established in 1964, provides a wide range of water and wastewater services including consulting, contract operations and maintenance, and bulk water supply. For more information about Tidewater, visit www.tuiwater.com or call 800-523-7224.
