A man died after driving his pickup truck into a DART bus Oct. 1, seriously injuring some passengers near Georgetown.
The accident happened at 9:43 a.m. along Old Furnace Road west of Waller Road, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Fournier said the man, whose name has not been released, was driving a Dodge pickup truck westbound on Old Furnace Road when he ran into a DART paratransit bus traveling eastbound. The truck hit the bus on the driver's side, forcing the bus off the road and into a ditch where it overturned before landing upright, Fournier said.
The truck rotated in the roadway before coming to a stop; an Infinity passenger car traveling behind the bus swerved and drove into a ditch.
The bus driver and seven passengers were taken to local hospitals where they were treated for injuries ranging from severe to nonlife-threatening. Four of the passengers were DART employees, said Jim Westhoff, community relations officer for the Delaware Department of Transportation.
The crash is under investigation and more information is expected to be released, police said.
