Thanks for the reporting by Kara Nuzback in the Cape Gazette, Oct. 1,
of the Sept. 23 monthly public meeting of the Eastern Sussex Republican Club.
Nuzback's article identified the meeting as organized by the Eastern Sussex Republican Committee and gave the website of the Sussex County Republican Committee as our website.
This is incorrect. ESRC is a club, not a committee. ESRC is an independent club with its own membership. It is open to any resident that wants to learn about Republican views and principles. Members sign up to be notified of meeting opportunities by paying $10 annual dues. Meetings are held monthly at the Hampton Inn on Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach. Those who wish to learn more can contact easternsuxrepcl@yahoo.com to receive meeting notices.
Reporter Nuzback left the meeting half way through the discussion and thus did not report on a lively discussion regarding DelDOT's project Route One plans. These plans, revealed in August, showed plans to install 14 new traffic lights in the area between Five Points and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal bridge. These traffic lights are to be pedestrian-initiated to allow walking across Route One.
There is a task force looking at these plans and considering the effectiveness of the new traffic lights, crosswalks, lighting and pedestrian barriers to deal with the many concerns of local residents and businesses. The comments in Nuzback article are introductory, but missed the heart of the meeting - concerns about what to do with congestion and safety in the Route One corridor.
