Richard 'Rick' Shearer, jack-of-all-trades

October 4, 2013

Richard Lee “Rick” Shearer, 59, passed peacefully at home Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, after a long struggle with heart disease.  He was born, baptized and confirmed Lutheran, of which he was very proud.

Rick is survived by his loving parents, Fred A. and Laura M. Shearer; his brother Randall L. Shearer; sister-in-law Erin; three children: Richard Lee Shearer Jr., Jonathan David Shearer and LauraLynn Shearer; two nieces and devoted fiancée Diana T. Ohtersen.

Rick and Diana were residents of Ocean View since 2000, loved shell hunting on the beach, landscaping and the overall atmosphere of community. Rick resided in Florida, Maine, Pennsylvania and Tennessee prior to moving to Delaware.

Rick was a die-hard fan of NASCAR (especially the Earnhardts), New York Giants, and simply the master of storytelling and a good joke. Rick also had a passion for animals, including a squirrel named Rocky he found in the back yard and nursed back to life.

Rick was also a jack-of-all-trades and there wasn’t a thing he could not fix due to his employment in auto body, construction, welding, and basic “school of life”

Rick will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Graveside services were held at White Chapel Memorial, Feasterville, Pa., Thursday, Oct. 3.
