Cape soccer loses nail biter to CR 2-1

Caesar Rodney rode into Cape Henlopen's Legends Stadium with a 5-1 record and at the final whistle the Riders had knocked the Vikings from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Caesar Rodney scored first off a shot by Thomas Aloe at 12:55 in the contest. Kai Vitella scored the Vikings' lone goal at 35:42 to tie the game. Rider Nicholas Gruwell scored the game winner at 16:01 of the second half.

Cape had 11 shots on goal, while CR tallied 12. The Riders took seven corners, while Cape had two.

Senior goalie Griffin Kammerer made nine saves, while Rider keeper Kevin Patrick Sheahan stopped seven Cape scoring attempts.

The Vikings travel to Seaford, Tuesday, Oct. 8, for a matchup with the Bluejays.
