October 8, 2013

Druscilla E. 'Dru' McCormick, nee Fritts, 55, of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Bebe Medical Center.

Dru was born May 6, 1958, in Camp LaJeune, N.C., daughter of the late John and Elaine Fritts. She moved to Wilmington, where she attended Thomas McKean High School. She was known as a creative decorator throughout her life.  Dru moved to Rehoboth Beach more than 10 years ago and continued pursuing her passion for raising Great Danes and dog rescue efforts.  Dru also loved living at the seashore and holding court at The Flamingo Lounge where she entertained friends, family and neighbors, day and night. She loved traveling, especially to European countries.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Fritts III.

She is survived by the love of her life, Arthur Mattei of Rehoboth Beach; her devoted friend and companion, Allen Roberson of Rehoboth Beach; her son, Robert Halsey of South Dakota; her daughter, Druscilla "Dee Dea" Halsey of Vermont; her grandchildren, Joseph Whaley of Laurel, Corbin Halsey of Arizona, Hannah Marvel of Wilmington, and Micah and Olivia Halsey of Vermont. She is also survived by her sisters, Tina Fritts Patterson of Texas, Mary Fritts Bender of Newark, and Dorothy Fritts Cole of Wilmington; and a brother, Dr. Edward C. Fritts, USMC, Ret., of North Carolina.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; great-niece Jenna Peart; and great-nephew Sho Perkins.

She will be sorely missed by her beloved Danes, Max, Katy, Lucy and Penny; and her Baby the Cat.

A celebration of Dru's life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Kings Highway, Lewes. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to an animal rescue group of one's choice.
