Donald R. Evans, passionate about cars

Donald R. Evans, 80 of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was born in Danbury, Conn. Nov. 3, 1932, son of the late Howard and May (Elwell) Evans.

For the past several years Mr. Evans resided at Winswept Stables with his daughter Dawn. Mr. Evans was the owner and operator of Don's Auto Body and Repair Shop in Brookfield, Conn. for 43 years, retiring in 2000. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Cars were his life and he enjoyed restoring them as well as seeing them race. Watching his favorite NASCAR driver Kyle Busch race and snowmobiling were of great enjoyment to him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was predeceased by his wife, Harriet Mildred Evans in 2011. He is survived by his son, Roy Pitcher of Danbury; three daughters: Donna Wright of Waterbury, Conn., Lisa Romano of Harbeson and Dawn Beach of Lewes; his grandchildren: Felicia Williams, Tyler Pitcher, Jennipher Wright, Richard Wright, Anthony Romano, Matthew Romano, Chase Beach, Macy Beach; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Gordon (Butch) Evans and wife Sandy of Texas; and his sister Virginia Kiely and husband Robert of Quincy, Vt. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Chapel committal with military honors will be held Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. A memorial service will be held at Walnut Hill Community Church, Bethel, Conn., and announced at a later time. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mr. Evans' memory to Home Of The Brave Foundation, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963.
