Cape soccer downs St. Thomas More 5-0

The Cape soccer team defeated visiting St. Thomas More Oct. 17 by a score of 5-0 to improve to 11-1 on the season with three games remaining.

Cape will host Delmar at 7 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 22, for Senior Night as the Vikings say goodbye to nine seniors who over the last three seasons under coach Gary Montalto have been part of a 33-6-3 record of success.

St. Thomas More hung with Cape for the first half of action, trailing 1-0 at halftime, with Cape’s goal coming from Max Euler on an assist from Bill Swontek  at 43:43.

The second half was all Cape as the Vikings scored four unanswered goals, two from Zack Swarbrick and single goals from Bill Swontek and Max Euler.

Tyler Malloy, Drew Mulchay, Max Euler and Zach Swarbrick all recorded second-half assists .

Goalies Griffin Kammerer with 4 and Dan Lewis with 2 saves guarded the Cape net, while Rourke Bonnell had 15 saves for the Ravens, who dropped to 2-8 on the season.

Notes. After playing Delmar, Cape will play away games at Smyrna Thursday, Oct. 24, and Indian River Tuesday, Oct. 29.  The state tournament, which is two divisions of eight teams this year, begins Wednesday, Nov. 6.
