Sharon Krupinski said she was at home in her High Alpine Lane residence about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20 when she heard a loud popping noise.

Her husband went outside to see what was going on, and found the home of neighbor and Rehoboth-area vocalist Viki Dee engulfed in flames.

Krupinski said Dee was not home at the time. No one was injured, but three pets died in the blaze in the 35000 block of High Alpine Lane in the Aspen Meadows development, off of Munchy Branch Road, said Warren Jones, spokesman for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co.

The house was in flames when firefighters arrived, but it was quickly contained, Jones said.

Dee appeared that night at Delaware Distilling Co. on Route 1, which hosted the closing party for the 24th annual Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. She could not be reached for comment.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
