Three Cape Gazette journalists won first-place awards in the 2013 National Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest non-daily division of newspapers with more than 10,000 circulation.
Ron MacArthur won first place in the feature photograph category for a photo he took of two children doing cartwheels on the beach and second place for a photo series he did on the Delaware State Fair.
Melissa Steele won first place in the health story category for a story she wrote about security issues at Beebe Medical Center and garnered an honorable mention for an investigative story on state pensions paid to those who commit on-the-job crime.
Chris Wildt won first place for an editorial cartoon about online gambling.
