Dr. Thomas E. Dyer, respected gynecologist

October 22, 2013

Dr. Thomas E. Dyer, 84, of Milford went home to the Lord while visiting a friend in North Jersey Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.

Dr. Dyer was a 1953 graduate of St. Peter’s College, now University in Jersey City, N.J. of which he has been a life-long supporter. He was graduated from New York Medical College and did his residency at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City. After medical training he spent two years in the U.S. Army delivering babies in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.

Dr. Dyer was a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist at Milford Memorial Hospital. Arriving there in 1965, he delivered babies and performed gynecologic surgery until 1992. He continued just office practice and retired after 41 years of practice in 2006. He had served nine years on the Board of Medical Practice for the State of Delaware.

Dr. Dyer will be sadly missed by many. His ability to remember something about a person that he had not seen in many years was uncanny. He was a soft-spoken, modest, gentleman who always greeted people with an extended hand. He was a kind and caring man, loved by many and will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dr. Dyer was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine A. Dyer, D.D.S. and Clare K. Dyer; a sister Marjorie C. Dyer; and a brother Valentine A. Dyer Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Barbara; and three stepchildren, Michael A. Hand (Dana) of Lithia, Fla., Jeanna M. Elliott currently of Milford and Michelle John (Robert) of Rehoboth Beach. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lauren, Stephen, Courtney, Laura and Robert; three great-grandchildren; Lynley, Noah and C.J.; along with his very caring cousin, Mark O’Conner O’Brien of Dallas, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24,  in St. John The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave. Milford. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers family suggests donations in his memory to either St. John The Apostle Church or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Life’s End Services are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc. Dover.
