Garland Jones Bowden, owned maintenance company

Garland Jones Bowden, 69 of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Lewes, died Sunday, Oct 13, 2013, after a brief illness.

Garland was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Greenville, N.C. to the late Edgar and Ruby Spencer Bowden. Garland attended Lewes Junior and  Wm. C. Jason High School. Upon leaving Lewes Garland moved to Philadelphia to live. After some years Garland decided to move to Orlando, where he made it his home until his passing on Sunday. While there he worked for the Orange County School District for 30 years, and also owned and operated G&B Maintenace and Janitorial Service. Garland was preceeded in death by his wife Linda in 2010; his parents; and brother Bernice Lee Bowden.

Survivors include two daughters, Tonya M. Bowden and Sharon E. Morris Radford of Decatur, Ga.; one son, Garland D. Bowden Jr. of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his former wife Nancy Thomas Bowden of Philadelphia; eight brothers, William and Valerie Bowden, Jennis and Yvonne Bowden, Allen Ray and Maggie Bowden, Leon and Dolena Bowden, Charles and Mary Bowden, and Billy and Glenda Bowden; one sister, Beatrice Oliver; and one sister-in-law: Rebecca Bowden.

Service will be held at Philadelphia Pentecostal Holiness Church, 13724 S. Old State Road, Ellendale, Thursday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., with viewing two hours before the service; burial will be private. Officiating will be Bishop Major Foster.
