Surreal happenings in Dewey Beach

October 24, 2013

I find the behavior of Dewey Beach town officials toward the property owners of 114 Chesapeake Street to be shocking. Threatening to revoke the license of these small business owners for violations of town code - violations which the officials refuse to identify - strikes me as surreal.

As best I can tell, these property owners followed the rules at each step of the way, sought the counsel of Town officials and received their assent before completing their renovation, were brought before the board of adjustment by an anonymous complaint, had the same town officials swear that they had followed the rules, had the complaint dismissed by the BOA, and yet are now threatened with the loss of their rental license. Kafka comes to Dewey Beach.
