Hocker, Gray to host coastal storm preparation session Nov. 19

October 28, 2013

Sen. Gerald Hocker, R-Ocean View, and Rep. Ron Gray, R-Selbyville, have scheduled a public meeting with officials from the Delaware Department of Transportaion and Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control in November to discuss coastal flooding concerns with area residents.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Roxana Fire Hall on Route 20. The legislators have invited officials from DelDOT and DNREC to participate and to address constituent concerns as they relate to storm preparation in the coastal areas.

Discussion topics will include:

• Emergency management protocol at the state and county level

• Flood insurance and coverage; and

• Assessing stormwater facilities in the community.

Hocker and Gray will hold the meeting in response to community requests on how to prepare and respond to recent and future large-event storms.

“Many residents, including me, are concerned on how to safely weather these storms,” Gray stated. “The meeting on November 19 will provide community members with an opportunity to know what they should do and who they can contact for guidance when extreme storm events occur.”

“An informed community is a safer community,” Gray added. “We hope area residents will come out and hear what the experts have to say.”
