Family Court task force sets meetings

First panel session scheduled for Legislative Hall Oct. 29

A panel charged with reviewing and recommending changes to how the Family Court system does business will hold meetings this week and in December at Legislative Hall.

Members of the General Assembly’s Family Court Task Force are scheduled to meet from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 29, with a pre-meeting public comment time from 9 to 10 a.m.

The panel also is scheduled to meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 10 with a public comment session from 1 to 2 p.m. Both sessions are scheduled to be held in the Senate Majority Caucus Room at Legislative Hall.

The task force was set up under Senate Concurrent Resolution 9 to study any Family Court proceedings that are currently closed to the public should be opened up. The panel includes members of the Family Court bench, a family law attorney, representatives of the Attorney General’s Office, the state’s Office of the Child Advocate and the Family Law Commission, a child psychologist, two members of the House, two members of the Senate and public representatives. The group is to report its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by February, 2014.
