October 30, 2013

Delaware State Police arrested a Lewes man and are searching for another in connection with the armed robbery Oct. 29 of an Angola convenience store.

A masked man entered the Shore Stop at 20701 John J. Williams Highway at 8 p.m., and pulled out a knife demanding money from the clerk, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The 27-year-old woman handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the man ran out of the store continuing west on Route 24, Fournier said.

An employee followed the man on foot while the clerk called 911. A black Honda stopped to pick up the suspect. When police arrived, Fournier said, the employee described the car, and police stopped the Honda at the intersection of Route 24 and Angola Road.

Both driver and passenger fled the vehicle; police arrested the driver Sammy Perakis, 21, of Lewes. The officer who arrested Perakis was treated and released at Beebe Healthcare for nonlife-threatening injuries, Fournier said.

None of the Shore Stop employees were injured.

Police continue to search for Ryan R. Wood, 21, of Frankford.

Perakis was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and second-degree conspiracy. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $54,000 cash bail.
