Wallace A. Layton, retired marine policeman

Mr. Wallace A. Layton, 84, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.

Mr. Layton was born March 3, 1929, to the late William Henry and Marie Ellingsworth Layton. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded by a brother, Vernon Layton; and sisters, Margaret Revel and Virginia Mitchell.

He retired from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources Marine Police, which of all the things in his working career he was most proud of. He is also a U.S. Navy veteran. He like to draw, paint, build things and fish. Mr. Layton also enjoyed playing the guitar, keyboard and the dulcimer. He was devoted to his family and loved to be on the water. Wallace loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Sue Roper Layton of Georgetown; daughters, Patricia Brown and her husband Michael of Greenwood, and Mary Kathleen Hiatt and her husband Steve of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, William Allen Layton and his wife Geraldine of Halifax, Va.; two sisters, Jeanette Hall and Carolyn Timmons, both of Millsboro; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at Carey’s Cemetery, Millsboro.
