Jean M. Johnson, retired lab supervisor

Jean M. Johnson, 86 of Lewes, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach. She was born in Ridley Park, Pa. Nov. 18, 1927, daughter of the late William T. and Helen W. (Wiltbank) Manning.

Ms. Johnson dedicated her life to laboratory research. She worked for many years at Beebe Medical Center in the laboratory department as a lab supervisor. She was also very active in her community, participating in numerous organizations, including Lewes Historical Society, American Society of Medical Technologists, Friends of Lewes Public Library and Children's Beach House. She spent many hours volunteering at the local Blood Bank of Delaware and was an active member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church. During her spare time, Ms. Johnson loved to snuggle up with a good book or depart on an adventurous trip to explore the country. She was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother and a dear friend by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford E. Johnson; her two sons: Arthur P. Watts and David W. Watts; and her daughter, Andrea W. Warner. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Katharine A. Johnson of Milford; her three stepsons, Jay A. Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla., C. Michael Johnson of Westminster, Md. and Randall L. Johnson of Dover; and seven grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Memorial contributions in Ms. Johnson's memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 North DuPont Hwy., Georgetown, DE 19947.
