Paul Russell Riggs Sr., retired fire policeman

Paul Russell Riggs Sr., 96, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Country Rest Home in Greenwood. He was born May 18, 1917, in Dover to parents Nathaniel and Emma Riggs.

Paul is predeceased by his late wife, Elsie G. Riggs (1995) of 56 years; two brothers, Wilson and Larry; and two sisters, Ethel and Peggy. He is survived by his present loving wife, Beulah (Bea) McQueen  Riggs; his two grown children, Paul R. (Gale) Riggs Jr. of Lewes and Sharon R. Baffa of Simi Valley, Calif.; his two grown stepdaughters Jeanne Sisk and Linda (Cliff) Schramm; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and Pat Earnshaw, a loyal friend.

Paul joined the U.S. Navy in 1935 and served his country in World War II. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as troop leader when his son, Paul Jr., was a scout. Paul also was a member of the Talleyville Fire Company for 20 years, where he served as a fire policeman.

Later, in his retirement years living in the Rehoboth Beach area, he enjoyed travelling, fishing, wood carving, and becoming a Mason. Paul will be missed, and remembered for his sense of humor, his passion for living, and his willingness to always lend a helping hand! A frequent quote, "It's been a good life."

A ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at Conley's Methodist Cemetary, Robinsonville Road off Route 24.
