Cancer Support Community receives grant from BJ’s Charitable Foundation

The Cancer Support Community Delaware recently received a $2,300 grant from BJ’s Charitable Foundation. CSCDE will use the grant to expand its outreach of a valuable distress screening tool, CancerSupportSource.

“With the funding from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation, our organization is able to assist individuals with a cancer diagnosis and their families to help identify their level of distress and key areas of concern, such as paying for care, communicating with their healthcare team and others. The program takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Upon completion, patients are provided with a Personal Support Care Plan composed of tailored information about their distress level and available support resources,” said Sean Hebbel, LCSW, SW-C, program director.

“A cancer diagnosis can be very stressful for the entire family, and Cancer Support Community is here to provide the needed support for these individuals,” said Kate McKenzie, president and CEO. “We have locations in each county and provide services free of charge. Services offered include the CancerSupportSource, with the help of BJ’s Charitable Foundation, but also mind-body programs, educational opportunities, support groups, exercise and nutritional programs.”
