Milton Garden Club to exhibit at Holly Festival Dec. 14

December 9, 2013

The Milton Garden Club will exhibit in the annual Holly Festival Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Milton Fire Hall on Front Street. The featured items will be their signature Williamsburg-style boxwood and magnolia leaf wreaths. Other wreaths will be available too, including plain boxwood wreaths and mixed greens wreaths.

Sandy Winterbottom, Milton Garden Club Holly Festival chair, said, “We are taking orders for these wreaths. Last year we were sold out of both the boxwood/magnolia leaf and the plain boxwood wreaths a few minutes past 9 a.m..”

The garden club will also be selling bunches of greens, swags, small arrangements, table centerpieces, bows, pine cones and pods. Raffle tickets for the Dessert of the Month will also be available. The December dessert is 12 dozen cookies (one dozen of 12 different kinds of homemade cookies).

The other desserts of the month throughout year include various pies, cakes, and confections. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The winner will be drawn at 3 p.m. at the close of the festival. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission is free.

The Milton Garden Club is a nonprofit organization whose main goal is to make Milton beautiful with flowers. The members plant and maintain 10 public gardens and more than 50 planters and change the plants seasonally. Hollyfest is one of their major fundraisers along with the annual home and garden tour.

The 2014 tour will be a repeat of the 2007 bicentennial tour,  A Walk Down Union Street. “People have been asking for a repeat of this tour,” said Kathryn Greig, co-chair of the garden selection committee. ”They love looking at the hidden gardens on this historic street.”
