Helping Hands Sea Creature Tree to support Seaford House

December 12, 2013

The community is invited to visit Grotto Pizza on Rehoboth Avenue this holiday season to view the beautiful Parade of Trees that decorates the restaurant in support of local charities. One of the trees is Helping Hands Sea Creature Tree, decorated by the students of The Jefferson School.

The Jefferson School’s Student Council sponsors the Helping Hands Sea Creature Tree in support of Seaford House, a residential and day-treatment facility for at-risk teens. All proceeds from the collection box placed under the school’s tree will support Seaford House. On the last day of the parade of trees, Dec. 31, all monetary donations will be counted and forwarded to the sponsor. The tree that collects the most charitable contributions will win an additional $250 for their charity, donated by Grotto Pizza.

The tree’s Helping Hands Sea Creature theme is based on kids providing a helping hand to other kids in the community. Each student from The Jefferson School created a sea creature ornament using the shape of their hands. The inspirational quotes and additional handmade nautical ornaments were provided by students at the Seaford House.

Seaford House serves kids ages 12 to 17 who have been diagnosed with emotional or behavioral health issues. Youth are referred to the program by the Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health Services. Up to 10 youth may reside there, and another eight may participate in day treatment.
