The Coastal Georgetown Branch of the American Association of University Women is part of a national professional organization of more than 100,000 members whose mission is to work for equity for all women and girls, to encourage lifelong learning, and to effect positive societal change.

Coastal Georgetown AAUW is offering two $1,500 scholarships for two graduating senior girls attending one of the four public high schools in the Coastal Georgetown area: Indian River, Sussex Central, Sussex Tech, or Cape Henlopen. The deadline for the receipt of applications is April 11, 2014.

The criteria for these awards includes both academics and volunteer service. All applicants are required to submit a completed application package that includes: a completed and signed Virginia Rust Scholarship application; an essay of 250-300 words demonstrating understanding between future goals and leadership experience, volunteerism and/or community service; a current transcript; a resumé of leadership, work, and community experience; and a letter of recommendation from someone other than a guidance counselor.

All four high schools have participated in the Virginia Rust Scholarship from the Coastal-Georgetown AAUW since 2009. Applications have risen from 20 in 2010 to 41 in 2013.
