West Side New Beginnings opens new library

VIA donates books, shelving and research materials
December 19, 2013

Students at West Side New Beginnings were introduced to their new student library Oct. 22.  Members of the Village Improvement Association collected books in conjunction with Reading Opens Doors and presented more than 350 books for the library. In addition, the VIA provided funding for shelving and research materials, and now the library is operational.

Students browsed the books as VIA members assisted them in adding library pocket cards. Students may borrow books to read at home. New Beginnings staff will also use the books to assist students in development of reading skills during the after-school program at the site.

The VIA led a story time and a sing-along that provided additional ways of looking at books. Students learned to care for books and to assist with returning books to the library shelves. The VIA and Reading Opens Doors members were pleased to share their love of reading and to encourage student success with the program at West Side New Beginnings.
