Georgianne W. Schade, retired controller

Georgianne W. Schade, 67, of Selbyville, passed away peacefully at her residence Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born March 19, 1946, in Covington, Ky., daughter of the late Lloyd G. and Marie A. (Schoech) Wagner.

Ms. Schade attended the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in history. She later pursued a second degree in accounting from Salisbury University, and obtained her CPA certification. Ms. Schade spent the majority of her career doing accounting and bookkeeping for the family business. From 1997-2001 she worked as controller for the Coconut Malorie Resort in Ocean City, Md. She then finished her career as the regional controller at Marshall Hotels & Resorts in Salisbury, Md. until her retirement in May of this year.

Ms. Schade was a very active parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. As a dedicated person of faith, Ms. Schade was also a member of the Lay Carmelite Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Ms. Schade found much joy in her hobbies, the most notable of which was her passion for needlework: quilting, cross-stitch, and dressmaking. She also enjoyed kayaking on the bay and hiking in the Adirondacks. Described as a strong woman of faith and spirit, a loving mother and sister, Ms. Schade will be truly missed by all that knew her.

Ms. Schade is survived by her three children: John Schade Jr. and his wife Georgianne of Livermore, Calif., James Schade and his wife Brittany of Bellingham, Wash., and Lauren Schade of Washington, D.C., and their father, John Schade Sr.; her sister, Valerie Sutton and her husband Ed of Bishopville, Md.; and her two grandchildren, Aleksander and Katarina Schade.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 12,  at noon, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 9903 Coastal Hwy, Ocean City. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with Lay Carmelite services beginning at 11:30. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium of Ocean View.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Schade’s memory to St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 9903 Coastal Hwy, Ocean City, MD 21842, or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
