Mariner Middle basketball wins two on opening day

Mariner Middle School basketball had a winning opening day of the 2013 season, with the boys battling to a 34-30 victory while the girls started strong with a 29-27 win over the Woodbridge Raiders.

The boys opened the home games as Hassan Corbin paced the team with 12 points while Randy Rickards tossed in 10. Lamar Thompson scored 9, Brian Morris had 2, and Malik Aiken had 1.

The girls finished the doubleheader with eighth-grader Raegan Jackson tossing in 15 points and snagging six steals. Seventh-grader Kaeli O'Neill-Willey scored 5 points and grabbed five steals, while Dania Cannon put in 2 buckets and had five steals in the contest.

The girls followed up their first game performance with a 28-26 win over Dover Central Middle School Wednesday, Dec. 11, while the boys were victorious with a 30-15 win.

The Mariner Vikings travel to Selbyville Middle School Monday, Dec. 16, for a matchup with the Indians.
