Dora Vaes Buckingham, wonderful cook

Dora Vaes Buckingham, 87, of Newark, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Lier, Belgium, to the late Theophil and Maria (Wouters) Vaes.

Dora is survived by her husband of 66 years, Frank H. Buckingham; daughters Maria A. Buckingham of Milton, Nina V. Sneeringer (David) of Newark and Amy B. Rowe (Andrew) of Wilmington; grandsons D.J. Sneeringer (Laura), Frank Sneeringer, Ethan Robinson and Carson Rowe; brothers Alfons Vaes, and Eddie Vaes (Renee), all of Belgium; sisters Louise Kisro and Irma Russell both of Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dora was renowned for her wonderful cooking skills, especially for her desserts. She worked as a dessert chef at the Back Burner in Hockessin and The Troll of Scandinavia in Centreville and, in retirement, worked behind the scenes at her daughter’s business, Heart And Home. Her most cherished accomplishment in life was being a devoted and loving wife, mother and nana to her family, who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 16, at R.T. Foard & Jones F.H., Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contribution checks can be made in Dora’s memory to EDGE Ministries After School Program or Delaware Hospice and sent c/o the funeral home.
