Donald J. Farrelly Sr., Nemours retiree

Donald J. Farrelly, 89, of Lewes, passed away at his home Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Cline Farrelly after 60 years of marriage. Don was born in Chester, Pa., Dec. 9, 1924, to the late James Joseph and Dorothy Katherine Ripka Farrelly, where he lived until joining the Navy during World War II. The family moved to Wilmington in 1955. Don and Helen later moved to Lewes. Don retired from E.I. Dupont Nemours Co. after 30 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Don was also a member of the American Legion Post 28.

He is survived by his daughters: Dianne Reece and son-in-law Russell, Darlene Salvatore, and her husband Robert; and his son Donald Jr. and his wife Ellen (Whiteside). Darlene and Robert lived with Don the last several years, providing him loving care. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Christine (Bill) Cugno, Todd (Lisa) Reece, Adrienne (John) Klase, Robert Salvatore Jr., Jeff (Kim) Farrelly, Jon (Keisha) Farrelly and Jill Farrelly. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; extended family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Gull House Adult Day Care for the outstanding care they provided for him over the years.

The viewing will be private. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Christ Evangelistic Church, 9802 Camp Road, Laurel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either the Delaware Hospice or the Delaware Humane Society.
