I would like to add my perspective to the recent debate and many letters in the Cape Gazette regarding issues at the New Life Thrift Shop.
As a volunteer at the shop over the past 13 years, I have seen many changes. In life and in any organization, we must find a way to adjust to these changes. In this controversy, we must not lose sight of the important work of the New Life Thrift Shop in providing support and assistance to the needy in our community. For example, last year the Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches, supported by the shop, established the Community Resource Center to provide the needy with immediate assistance.
Mr. Dutch Kelly was the founder of this organization. The local community is eternally grateful for his vision and hard work.
Our volunteers are very proud to be associated with the New Life Thrift Shop and are extremely disappointed to read the negative comments in the Cape Gazette about this organization. I urge that these petty complaints stop, and we focus our attention on why we volunteer to serve our community.
Remember, we are the hand and feet of our Lord; nothing else should matter. Matthew 25:40 says “let me assure you: anything you did for one of my brothers here, however humble, you did for me.”
Lastly, we greatly appreciate the many donations given to us by the wonderful people in our community. Merry Christmas
G. Spence
