Ozie Vann, a Christian man

Mr. Ozie Vann, 90, of Rehoboth, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born March 14, 1923, in Baxley, Ga. to the late Robert D. and Alice Miller Vann. He was the youngest of 11 children.

He was retired from the Delaware Department of Transportation, Highway Division.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gertrude. He was a Christian man, and attended Faith United Methodist Church in Rehoboth. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7447 in Rehoboth, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He led an active life, liked Bible reading and discussion and was an amateur Bible scholar.

He survived by his son, Clyde Vann and his wife, Mimi, of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends.

A funeral service and celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m., at Friendship Baptist Church, 500 West 4th St., Lewes, where friends may call from noon until 1 p.m. for visitation.  The Rev. George Edwards is the host pastor, and Pastor Jerome Tilghman will eulogize. Interment follows at Friendship Baptist Church’s Cemetery with military honors. Floral tributes are welcomed.
