Birds cause power outage along Route 1

December 27, 2013

Two birds caught in electrical equipment caused a power outage this afternoon along Route 1.

Matt Likovich, spokesman for Delmarva Power, said the birds caused two fuses to blow out and a circuit to lock out.

About 2,200 customers north of Rehoboth Beach were out of power from 2:27 to 3:18 p.m., he said.

Department of Transportation spokesman Jim Westoff said stoplights were running on generators during the power outage.
