Shirley S. Weitz, active at St. Jude

Shirley S. Weitz, 79, of Lewes, formerly of Newark, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, Md.

Born in Wilmington July 18, 1934, Shirley was the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy Scott. She retired from her career in product demonstrations. Shirley was an active and devoted member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. She loved the beach, was an avid animal lover and was an old movie buff. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. The family is grateful to the owners and staff at Calvert Manor for their wonderful care of Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Weitz; her son, Michael Ryan; and her daughter, Lisa Jane Weitz; and her grandchildren, Michael J. Ryan Jr. and Shawn Michael Ryan.

She is survived by her son, Chris S. Weitz of Millsboro; her daughter, Lori J. Allan and her husband Donald M. of Lewes; nine grandchildren, Donald M. Allan Jr. (Carrie), David C. S. Allan, Tiara Downer (Danny), Rachele Allan, William, Matthew, Nicole and Michelle Ryan, and Courtney Weitz; her daughter-in-law, Norma Ryan; and four great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday Jan. 6, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Route 1, north of Five Points, Lewes, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle.
